SA might start off a bit slow for some people, but the payoff is definitely, 100%, completely worth it (I cannot stress that enough). But then again, some people really loved starting off with the absolutely massive world of the Stormlight Archive and all the incredibly detailed world building that went into it. I think Mistborn is a great introduction to the Cosmere, the magic system is explained very well and ties in to the overarching magic system of the Cosmere, and it is a completed Trilogy so you can finish it, as well as having a sequel series that you can delve into if you want more of similar powers and world. I personally started with Mistborn Era 1, then moved on to Warbreaker and Elantris, then the Stormlight Archive, then filled in the rest of the short stories and novellas. Mistborn Era 1: The Final Empire -> The Well of Ascension -> The Hero of Ages -> Mistborn Era 2: The Alloy of Law -> Shadows of Self -> Bands of Mourning Īs for best starting points, you'll hear different opinions and honestly it depends on the person. The Stormlight Archive: The Way of Kings -> Words of Radiance -> Edgedancer -> Oathbringer -> Dawnshard -> Rhythm of War The following are books of a particular series that follow each other: For example, you can read the following in any order, in between and around the later series list: Warbreaker, The Emperor's Soul, Sixth of the Dusk, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania (though this one makes more sense to read after at least the first Mistborn Era 2 book The Alloy of Law), and White Sand. Essentially, different series take place on different planets, and these series are for the most part self contained. There are many different possible reading orders for the books in the overarching series known as the Cosmere. ![]() ![]() If you're just getting into Brandon's books then here's a guide I made a bit ago of possible reading orders for all written works in the Cosmere:
